Taste of Home Cooking Show - 2011
For the past eight years KHCS has participated in the Taste of Home Cooking Show at the Gwinnett Civic Center. On Thursday, Oct. 13th four students from the Home Economics class made a day of chopping, cooking and getting the ingredients prepared for the evening's event. A Taste of Home cooking instructor prepares eight different recipes for about two hours to an audience of about 1,000 attendees. Pumpkin whoopie pies, marinated pork tenderloin and chocolate raspberry cake to name a few...giveaways galore, a can-food drive to benefit local co-ops and vendor booths topped off the evening. Another group of KHCS students provided instrumental background music in the Exhibit Hall.
This year Chef Michelle Redmond-or "Red" introduced and thanked Rachel Jones, Justin Bruce, Austin Trine and Andrea Haney at the end of the show. Also, Ronda Evens was introduced and was mainly back stage helping to coordinate their efforts. In between recipes the students, donned in tan aprons, came out with new ingredients and cleared away the previous recipe items. They worked hard! Don't you wish your kitchen came complete with Assistant Chef's!!
Teachers Marcia Rigg and Karen Hulin coordinated student instrumentalists, Tylie Wesley, Kaitlyn Rigg, Jenna Griffin, Rachel Matthews and Julia Smith. The group played mostly classical pieces and threw in one from the upcoming play, Beauty and the Beast! They started at 4:00 and ended at 6:30 just prior to the start of the show. What a great opportunity for KHCS to be involved in a community event!
