Jr/Sr High Curriculum Overview

Learning Disabilities

Killian Hill offers a program in which students with minor learning disabilities meet with a therapist 5 times a week and are mainstreamed for the remainder of the school week. The National Institute supports the program offered for Learning Disabilities.

Extended Study

3:30 – 5:30 p.m. daily

Discipline

We teach student self-discipline in conjunction with a demerit system.

Homework

Students in grades 7-12 during the week generally receive regular homework assignments, and special projects (book reports, theme papers, etc.) are assigned with more advance notification.  Homework assignments and grades are available on the internet through InfoDirect.

Seniors

Senior year includes a senior camp, an overseas Spring trip, baccalaureate, and graduation ceremony.

Extracurricular Activities:

Athletics

A full range of boy’s and girl’s sports provide a venue for participation on both varsity and junior varsity levels. Boys participate in soccer, golf, basketball, baseball, and tennis. Girls participate in golf, volleyball, basketball, soccer, and tennis. The Cougars participate in the Georgia Christian Athletic Association, which is made up of approximately 47 member schools.

Fine Arts

Each spring our students compete in the state Fine Arts Competition in categories such as Art, Music, Drama, Bible, and Academic Testing. Our students consistently rank in the upper levels among all competitors. Involvement in this area helps to instill a deeper appreciation of the fine arts. Students also have the opportunity to participate in choir and to perform in various activities throughout the school year. Each year the drama department of KH presents a full dramatic producation ranging from a musical to staff written productions.

Music

KHCS offers private 30-minute piano lessons on campus once a week. Band and orchestra opportunities are also available on an after school basis.

Quiz Team

The KHCS Quiz Bowl team began in 2008-09.  Quiz Bowl (sometimes going by other names like BrainBowl, Academic Team, High Q, and even College Bowl – some parents may remember the TV show) resembles more than anything else team Jeopardy and is a year-long season. The teams are divided up into a Middle School team a JV team and a Sr High Varsity team.
